RIM’s PlayBook in Direct Competition with the Amazon Fire


A few weeks ago we announced that RIM has slashed the prices of its not-so-successful PlayBook due to poor sales.

Most people left it at that, figuring the PlayBook’s mediocre design, usability, and relatively high cost were to blame for its failure. However, AllthingsD has reported that RIM’s cost cutting was actually down to the release of the Amazon Fire, which was around $300 cheaper than the basic PlayBook.
AllThingsD is citing Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu who says “Our understanding is that RIM was blindsided by Amazon pricing its Kindle Fire aggressively at $199.”only look for a product on Google now if they cannot find it on Amazon so they have created a lock in as the worlds best product search engine. That’s 40% Google cannot consider losing out on.
