Plans from Check with seller Google News: Google to Remove Black Navigation Bar
Just 6 months after Google rolled out the questionable black navigation bar it has decided to further update the design, taking the bar back down.
The Google blog says that the bar was just the first stage of the design, introducing users to the idea of finding all of their Google products in one place. Now, however, Google is replacing the navigation bar with a drop down menu listing products.
Google says “Instead of the horizontal black bar at the top of the page, you’ll now find links to your services in a new drop-down Google menu nested under the Google logo. We’ll show you a list of links and you can access additional services by hovering over the “More” link at the bottom of the list. Click on what you want, and you’re off.”
Although Google say the black bar takes up precious space in your browser, its replacement doesn’t necessarily offer any more space, its just a little easier on the eye as its background is now white, and it doesn’t list loads of products.
Google has posted a video on its blog that gives a demonstration of the new bar and how its layout differs from the current nav. The blog doesn’t suggest when exactly the new navigation will be rolled out, however, you can probably assume that you’ll be able to start testing it (‘switch to the new look’ type thing) pretty soon.
