Plans from Check with seller Google Challenges Flipboard with Google Currents

Just 2 days after news aggregator service Flipboard announced its availability on the iPhone, Google has announced its brand new service, set to rival the 2010 Palo Alto startup.

Google Currents is an online magazine reader that allows users to view news from “more than 150 publishing partners [that offer] full-length articles from more than 180 editions including CNET, AllThingsD, Forbes, Saveur, PBS, Huffington Post, Fast Company and more.“
Not only can you add magazines and other publications to your Google Currents library, you can also “add RSS, video and photo feeds, public Google+ streams and Google Reader subscriptions you’re already following.”
The integration with other Google products as well as social networks has put Google Currents as a serious competitor to services like Flipboard and Flud, both of which have recently undergone updates to design and usability.
To help users interact with the service more, Google has also launched a feature that allows publishers to easily create content specifically for Google Currents. The self service platform allows users to add sections, images, titles, etc. to the page and see how it will appear in Google Currents.
Google Currents is available on for both Android and iOS devices (including iPhone and iPad) and can be found in the app stores for both systems.
