Plans from Check with seller UPDATE: Facebook Deal with Gowalla now Confirmed
A few weeks ago we announced that RIM has slashed the prices of its not-so-successful PlayBook due to poor sales.
While the deal hasn’t actually been confirmed, it’s thought that this is Facebook’s attempt at further integrating the use of places within its social network.
Users can currently select to share their location when they post updates; however, Facebook could be looking to take the service one step further by allowing users to share their favourite countries, cities, monuments, and tourist attractions.
The acquisition was discovered less than a week after Facebook announced it would be binning its Places feature
Facebook has refused to comment but Gowalla’s CEO, Josh Williams, has sent out an email (which AllThingsD got their hands on) that suggests the deal is possible but not definite, he writes:
